Santos Populares is one of Portugal’s most traditional and vibrant festivals, celebrated with great enthusiasm in cities across the country, including Lisbon, Porto, and beyond. The festival honors three beloved saints: Saint Anthony (June 13), Saint John (June 24), and Saint Peter (June 29), each marked by unique and lively events throughout June, extending into special celebrations in July.
Beyond being a fun event, Santos Populares is a cultural celebration that honors tradition, history, and local heritage. It is a special moment where my family, friends, and visitors come together to experience the genuine and vibrant spirit of Portugal.
Great Festival of Belém
Following the resounding success of its inaugural edition, Belém is set to dazzle once more with a spectacular display of lights and colors, hosting the second edition of the Grande Arraial de Belém. This vibrant and captivating event will unfold in the charming Parque dos Moinhos, featuring a rich program filled with music, traditional and contemporary dances, entertainment for all ages, and a variety of activities specially designed for children, ensuring unforgettable moments of joy for the entire family.
Events during the celebrations
From May 30 to June 29, the neighborhoods will transform into the vibrant heart of Lisbon’s most anticipated celebrations, featuring a lineup of renowned national and international artists. This event welcomes people of all ages, offering a rich program filled with fun and cultural experiences for children, youth, and adults alike. New this year is an expanded family area, boasting a wide array of activities for children, colorful inflatables, and numerous engaging entertainment options throughout the festival. It’s the perfect occasion to celebrate the traditional Santos Populares with your whole family in a safe, friendly, and joyful atmosphere where everyone can relax and create unforgettable memories.
Great Festival of Belém – Artists present
Among the most exciting and eagerly awaited artists this year is Deixa Rolá, who will have the honor of opening the festivities with his captivating music on May 30. The following day, May 31, Tio Jel will take the stage, bringing his infectious and dynamic energy that will engage the audience from the very first moment. On June 4, the atmosphere will be elevated by Toy, an artist renowned for his distinctive and unmistakable style, sure to mesmerize and delight the crowd. Finally, on June 7, Sék Mintendes will perform his rhythmic and enthralling music, guaranteeing that no one will stay still and everyone will be swept up in dance and celebration.
Homage to Brazilian culture
In addition to the previously announced artists, on June 8th the festival will feature a special event celebrating the Junine festivities, a cherished and vibrant tradition in Brazil. This day will showcase unique celebrations filled with lively music, traditional dances, and diverse entertainment, all infused with the authentic spirit of Brazilian culture. It promises to be an unforgettable chance to fully experience the festive and colorful atmosphere of these beloved popular traditions.
Night of St. Anthony, the culmination of the celebration
The highly anticipated night of Santo António on June 12 promises to be an unforgettable and emotional celebration. Tudo ao Molho, Paladin’s original and acclaimed band, will open the “Santos Populares” festivities with a captivating performance, setting the stage for an extraordinary evening. Next, the dynamic duo Quimé and Rubim will electrify the crowd with their explosive rendition of P*ta da Loucura, delivering high-energy, fast-paced rhythms. Hot Crazy Boy will then take the spotlight, bringing his distinctive and infectious energy that will captivate every attendee. Finally, the legendary Party Animals will close the night with their iconic Crazy Hour, ensuring a wild and memorable finale for all.
Taste some culinary specialties
Alongside the beloved “Sardinhas Grelhada” a staple at every celebration, a diverse selection of traditional foods and drinks will be offered. Among these, the “Ginjinha” stands out, giving attendees the opportunity to savor authentic Portuguese culinary delights. Additionally, numerous other enjoyable and delightful gastronomic surprises will enhance the experience, making it even more memorable and engaging.
